St Martin's celebrates strongest A-Level results since before Covid

Students at St Martin’s School in Brentwood are celebrating the school’s strongest A-level results since before the Covid pandemic, with further improvements in outcomes continuing the Sixth Form’s impressive upward trajectory.

Year 13 students returned to St Martin’s today to collect their A-level and vocational results, with the 2026 cohort building on the significant progress achieved last summer. The results demonstrate continued strength in both attainment and student progress, with more young people achieving the grades they need to take their next steps into university, higher and degree apprenticeships and employment.

The success of this year’s cohort can be seen across a wide range of subjects, with a number of exceptional individual and subject performances.

Art students achieved outstanding results, with 75% of grades awarded at A or A and every student achieving A–B.** In German, 100% of students achieved A or A*, while 91% of Photography grades and 75.7% of Economics grades were at A–B*.

There were also 100% A–B outcomes in Drama and Theatre Studies*, while every student studying Photography, Textiles and French achieved A–C*.

Success was equally impressive across the school’s vocational courses. Every student studying BTEC Health and Social Care achieved a Distinction or Distinction*, while 100% of BTEC Sport students achieved Distinction, Distinction or Merit*.

Outstanding individual achievements

While the headline results demonstrate the strength of the Sixth Form as a whole, this year’s results also represent the culmination of years of hard work, ambition and determination from individual students.

Among those celebrating is Poppy, who achieved an exceptional three A grades in Biology, Chemistry and French*. Poppy will now take up her place at the University of Oxford to study Medicine.

Across the year group, students have secured places at a wide range of leading universities, as well as prestigious higher and degree apprenticeships and employment opportunities. The growing popularity of apprenticeships reflects the breadth of pathways now being chosen by St Martin’s students as they take their next steps beyond Sixth Form.

A celebration of students and staff

“We are enormously proud of everything our Year 13 students have achieved. These are our strongest results since before Covid, but behind every grade is a young person who has worked incredibly hard, responded to challenge and shown real determination to be the best they can be.

“It is particularly pleasing to see such strength across the breadth of our Sixth Form, from exceptional A-level performances to outstanding vocational results and the impressive range of destinations our students have secured.

“These achievements also reflect the extraordinary commitment of our teachers and support staff. They know our students as individuals, have challenged them to aim high and have given enormous amounts of time, expertise and encouragement to help them succeed.

“Today is a celebration of our students, but I know they would join me in thanking the staff who have supported them throughout their time at St Martin’s.”
The 2026 results represent another important milestone in the continued development of St Martin’s Sixth Form. With a broad range of A-level and vocational courses, a strong focus on academic and personal development, and an increasing range of opportunities beyond the classroom, the Sixth Form continues to provide students with the knowledge, skills and confidence to succeed in their chosen futures.
