Business Studies

Head of Department - Mr. T. Wilkinson

The Business Education department is well established at St Martin’s School. We offer A Levels in both Business Studies and Economics, and a choice of relevant courses at GCSE. Our philosophy is to encourage students to apply what the texts say into their everyday experiences and by doing so make the subject relevant to them.

Modern Languages

Head of Department - Mrs. L. Ballard

All students study both French and German in years 7, 8 and 9 with a few students taking just one language in year 9.

Languages are optional at KS4 and students who decide to study the subject at KS4 obtain very good results (83% A*-C in French and 94% A*-C in German in 2016). The department strives to provide its pupils with a positive learning experience which will encourage them to pursue their studies for life.

Information Technology

Head of Department - Mrs. J. Curtis-Thomas

The Information and Communication Technology Department consists of five networked rooms for main school teaching of the subject, but every other Faculty has either its own ICT room or clusters of machines. In addition there is a separate networked room for adult training and Sixth Form teaching.

All rooms normally have a scanner, laser printer, data projection and access to digital cameras. Every machine has access to the Internet and all students have their own e-mail address. All students take ICT at Key stage 4 leading to qualifications equivalent to GCSE A* -C grade. The ICT rooms are open at lunchtime and after school for students to complete homework and coursework.
